FAQ
Questions mobile traders ask us
Quick, straight answers. If yours isn't here, ask it in your enquiry — a real person will answer.
Who is The Money Truck for?
Australian businesses that trade on wheels or on the move: food trucks, coffee vans, food trailers, couriers and owner-drivers, mobile mechanics, tradies, market stallholders, pop-up shops, mobile caterers, groomers, detailers, ice cream vans and festival and event traders.
Does enquiring affect my credit score?
No. There's no credit check when you first enquire. A credit check is only discussed once you've chosen an option and decided to go ahead.
Will my details be sent to lots of lenders?
No. We don't do spray-and-pray. A real person reviews your enquiry and matches your situation properly, so you won't be flooded with calls.
How much can I borrow?
Unsecured, cash-flow and line-of-credit options for trading businesses typically run from $5,000 to $500,000, sized on turnover and bank statements. Property-secured business loans run from $20,000 to $5,000,000 through first mortgages, second mortgages and caveat loans.
Why don't you publish interest rates?
Because every facility is priced on the business's own circumstances — the amount, security, trading history and term. A headline rate would be misleading for most people. You'll get real numbers once your situation has been looked at.
Can I get finance for a brand-new food truck business?
Sometimes. Without trading history, lenders look for other comfort, such as a solid contribution from you, relevant experience or property security. Once you've traded for a while, turnover-based options open up.
Can the fit-out be funded as well as the vehicle?
Often, yes. The vehicle, fit-out, equipment and some opening stock can be looked at as one project. Fit-outs paid in stages before the truck is finished need a little more planning.
My income is seasonal. Is that a problem?
Not in itself. Seasonal and event-based income is normal for mobile businesses. It helps to show a full year of bank statements and explain your season, so it reads as a pattern rather than a problem.
I take a lot of cash. Does that matter?
Lenders can only count income they can see. Banking your takings regularly into a business account, and keeping simple sales records, makes a big difference.
Can I fund festival site fees and event-season stock?
Yes. Many traders use a line of credit or short-term funding to pay site fees, stock and wages before the takings arrive, then repay from the season.
What if I have bad credit or owe the ATO?
Bad credit and ATO debt are considered case by case. Tell us upfront on the form — being accurate helps us find the right option.
Can I borrow against my home to buy a truck or van?
If you own residential or commercial property, a property-secured business loan can be used for business purposes such as buying and fitting out a vehicle. Your property is security for the loan, so plan carefully.
Can I buy a second-hand truck from a private seller?
Often, yes. Do a PPSR search on the VIN, get an independent inspection and check what your council needs before you pay. A clear paper trail makes funding easier.
Can the money be used for personal things?
No. It's business finance only — vehicles, fit-outs, equipment, stock, fees, tax bills and working capital for the business.
What documents will I need?
It depends on the option. Commonly: recent business bank statements, ID, your ABN, quotes or invoices for what you're buying, and property details if it's secured. We'll tell you exactly what's needed once you choose to go ahead.
How quickly can it happen?
It depends on the option, the security and how quickly documents come together. Your specialist will give you a realistic timeline on the first call.
Is the truck-stop calculator an offer?
No. It's a free planning tool to add up a project, test cash flow and map event season. A specialist confirms what's actually possible.
Still wondering? The truck-stop calculator helps you add up your project, or you can start a 60-second enquiry with no credit check.
